Sarasota Info

Sarasota is place to more than 10 Theaters, 30 art galleries, diverse artist communities, exclusive designated State Museum of Art of Florida (Ringling Museum), an internationally recognized Symphony and Ballet, and a purple, shell-shaped performing arts hall (Van Wezel), known for it’s excellent acoustics and unique architectural design, all of which complement the area’s famous beaches and warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

In 1843, a young adventurer named William Whittaker established in the Sarasota area, and gradually the area was constructed by hardy colonists, containing a ship of settlers from Scotland. Between these was a man named John Hamilton Gillespie, who later introduced golf to Sarasota, constructing the first golf course of Florida.
