Pensacola is a sea port on Pensacola Bay, which links to the Mexico's Gulf. A large U.S Navy airbase, the first in the United States, is situated southwest of Pensacola (nearly the community of Warrington) and is place to the Blue Angels flight exhibition team and the National Museum of Naval Aviation.

Pensacola is also known like "The City of Five Flags" due to the five flags that have flown over it throughout its history: the flags of Spain (Castile), France, Great Britain, the Confederate States of America, and the U.S. Other nicknames contain "World's Whitest Beaches" (due to the white sand prevalent along beaches in the Florida panhandle), "Cradle of Naval Aviation" (the National Museum of Naval Aviation is situated at the Pensacola Naval Air Station, place of the legendary Blue Angels), "Western Gate to the Sunshine State," " First Settlement of America," "Emerald Coast," "Redneck Riviera," and "Red Snapper Capital of the World."

Pensacola, Florida has held a rich and colourful history over 450 years, being the first community in the continental U.S (1559), and manipulated by 5 nations. Though Pensacola is the antique village, its position has made great turmoil, with several buildings ruined by wars, and by diverse major hurricanes. The location, south of the original British colonies, and as the separating line among French Louisiana and Spanish Florida, along the Period River, has occasioned Pensacola to change ownership several times. Pensacola has been under the possession of the Spanish, French, British, U.S, Confederate States, and has remained a part of the U.S. since the end of the American Civil War. Along with wars, various hurricanes have been a principal factor in Pensacola history.

Pensacola is situated at 30°26'13?N, 87°12'33?W. According to the United States Census Office, the city possesses a total area of 102.7 km˛ (39.7 mi˛). 58.8 km˛ (22.7 mi˛) of it is land and 43.9 km˛ (17.0 mi˛) of it (42.77%) is water.
